Two individually controllable outputs, switches off the neutral wire, love the Android app
I bought this to control my Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 10-inch, 110-120V with GFCI. Because the Kasa Smart Outdoor Plug switches both the Live and Neutral wires, the GFCI feature in the pump automatically trips when the neutral wire is disconnected when off. So I always have to manually reset the GFCI on the pump plug to turn the pump on again. Since it is already on a GFCI outlet, as well as on a GFCI breaker, I am considering replacing the GFCI plug on the pump with a standard outdoor plug. I didn't feel this constraint was worth docking a star, so I still give this product full 5 stars for execution and reliability. I had read other reviews of people using this smart plug to switch a pool or fountain pump, but they must not have a GFCI plug. The Android app is wonderful to use. It includes a scheduling feature, a timer feature (similar to the sleep timer on old alarm clock radios and TV's), and a runtime meter. I was most impressed by the scheduling option to turn on/off at sunrise and sunset - perfect for night lights. I didn't bother with Alexa integration since I often find it easier to just pick up a phone or a tablet to run the Kasa app. Alexa doesn't give a visual feedback of whether the output is currently on or off, while the app shows a comforting green circle for ON, or a grey circle for OFF. The app even shows the next scheduled time for the next action. The two outlets saved me from having to buy two smart plugs, and they each work independently. I will definitely take advantage of this feature with my holiday and yard lights in the winter. There is also a separate and sturdy rubber dust/water flap to cover each unused outlet. The only thing missing is a energy usage monitor, and it would be the perfect smart device.

This gadget is genius
I had a Smart Home long before the words even existed. My entire house was controlled by a sophisticated programmable multi-channel X10 console so indoor and outdoor lighting went on and off, dimmed, and responded to triggering devices. This was pre-wifi so everything used the house's electrical power lines. These days things are almost exactly the same except now everything is wireless and can be controlled by Alexa or my smartphone from anywhere in the world. When I first jumped aboard the smart plug and switch bandwagon there were only a handful of brand names selling the hardware – Kasa by TP Link, Wemo by Belkin, and Leviton. Their products were similar and pricey and they all shared my number one complaint about the entire product category, that their products would only work using their proprietary smartphone app. If you mixed brands you had to download an app from each company, there wasn’t (and still isn’t) any standardized app that can control any brand smart switch. Then the cheap offshore knockoffs came along and introduced several problems, the biggest of which is that these companies have the life of a fruit fly, they’re here one day and gone the next with no app, no support and no service, meaning that their switches and plugs end up in the garbage. All that being said, I will only buy Kasa plugs and switches. Their app is by far the best and their hardware is well made, versatile and dependable. I am excited about this one, finally a weatherproof outdoor smart plug that is even better than I expected because it has two separate channels. The two plugs are at the end of a short heavy duty grounded power cord that plugs into one outlet. It is designed to hang downward to prevent rain and other weather from touching the switched power plugs. There are two buttons on the switch to give the user local control without using the app. The unit comes with one cable clamp to help keep the plug secured and help prevent it from accidentally being pulled out of the power outlet. This plug, like all Kasa products works seamlessly with Alexa and setup is mostly automatic. From box to fully setup took me about five minutes. In my opinion Kasa is probably the most compatible brand I’ve used with Alexa Echo devices. You might pay a few cents more for a trusted brand name but I think it’s worth it. TP Link has been around for a long time and I’ve always been happy with their products. This outdoor dual smart plug is genius and I highly recommend it.

Works great for string lights. Thought it was causing a GFCI tripping problem - guess not
Below is my 3 star rating which I'm changing to 4 stars now that I've done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip - but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasn't the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and you're using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. I'm going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5.Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip:This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. That's the good - now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb - and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldn't turn off all the way - they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says it's waterproof but obviously isn't. I'm going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.
