Take it from a bag addict... buy this. Update after 4 years!
So I have an issue... I love bags. I really enjoy a high quality bag that fits the purpose that I purchased it for and this is one of my favorites. I watched hours of reviews of tactical style bags before this purchase. I also purchased another bag that looked great and had high reviews but I just was not as impressed so I returned it and bought this pack. I'm an IT professional and needed a EDC (every day carry) bag that would transport multiple devices, my cables, accessories, and anything else I needed for the day. I can comfortable carry my 15" Dell Precision Ultrabook, Surface Pro, and my iPad Pro 9.7! I tell you this is the best bag I have ever carried. Tons of organization and space that was well thought out. Some bags might have lots of organization but they were not made to correctly hold anything useful outside a few pens. That is not the case with the Dragon Egg. Each pouch, each slot, each compartment makes me think this bag was custom made for me. Did I mention I can even fit my lunch bag inside? You will not have buyer's remorse if you buy this bag. It's high quality and looks great while not looking too militaristic... just enough to look like a man's bag!Update:So have been carrying this bag almost every work day for the past 3 years... almost 4. I’m still in love with this bag. I get several compliments on it. It’s been loaded, thrown into my truck, stuffed into my desk locker, flown on several trips, and has been on a few outdoor adventures... AND IT STILL LIKE BRAND NEW! All the stitches, zippers, and buckles are 100%. I have several bags as I said but this is my daily drive and go to. Sure it’s a little pricey but you can’t compare it to China garbage. Just think of it as a long term investment because it’s going to last for years!

I was so impressed with the 1st Dragon Egg that I purchased in 2016 that I bought another one.
Having spent 2 full enlistments in the Marine Corps infantry, you learn how important it is to have great quality gear. I loved me some good assault packs and mountain rucks. When you're runnin' and gunnin' around 100-150+ lbs. of gear you want something that is sturdy, well stitched, and has good back/shoulder support. The ILBE (Improved Load Bearing Equipment) packs that the Corps provided never sat well with me. The older models with the plastic outer frames always broke and the newer ones would always tear or break. Because of this, over the years, I became really particular about the packs that I would take into my combat deployments. (I would end up buing 80-90% of my own gear.)This being said, I unfortunately did not have the experience of taking Direct Action bags into deployment. If these bags existed back during the invasion in 2003, I would of definitely picked one up and confidently taken it into combat. The assault packs that the Corps issue their Marines are quite bad. Poor stitching, thin fabric, and zippers that were very unreliable. The Dragon Eggs that I have been very reliable. They have some of the most comfortable shoulder straps that I have seen on an assault pack. These days my loadout has me luggin around about 30-40 lbs. of gear. Really light for a fighting load back in the Corps, but in 1st CIVDIV (Civilian Division - it's a joke guys) 40 lbs. of gear on your back you really start to feel. Fortunately, the back padding is also quite good and allows a bit of air flow. There are way too many packs out there that skimp on the shoulder padding and that just ends up in the straps eventually digging into your shoulders. (for most people who don't carry much weight in their packs this won't be an issue)What else can I say? It's not the cheapest out there, but for the price it is my opinion that it may be one of the better (if not best) pack for around $150.

Versitile, well-made mid-sized pack with lots of molle attachment points for add-on items.
Really like this pack. I needed a bag for a week of work related travel to a training site and used it primarily for my chromebook, training manual, tablet and various chargers adapters cables and whatnot. Was also used as day-bag during trip. Materials appear to be outstanding. The usual search for loose threads, stitch gaps and potential points of failure produced none. Bag material seems very good. Zippers and pulls very good. Detail as far as pockets, zipped partitions very good. Straps and buckles good and veriy tidily wrapped up with Velcro and sliding keepers on receipt. Also has a pretty decent woven paracord drag handle. Hard to tell what the long-term wear resistance will be like but it looks good at this point. The bag is somewhat heavy - even when empty due to it's robust construction. It's a good size with room for a 14 inch 2-in-1 chromebook in the built-in padded sleeve. Pockets for a tablet, charge pack smartphone, power supplies, cables, flash drives and so on and present as well as room for a good sized old-school training manual and all with lots of room to spare. Shoulder straps are well done, padded, contoured and comfortable with waist and chest stabilizing straps. Only regret is that Amazon store didn't offer the cryptec camouflage colorway shown in some of the review photos. Not cheap but I wanted a bag that would stay usable for years and the Dragon Egg ticks off all the boxes.

Strong Backpack
Been using this backpack for a couple of months now and it has been holding up well. I do put a lot of books in it and the average weight I carry every week for school is 20 to 25 pounds. Most of the weight is due to a thick laptop and I use the laptop pouch to hold the charger and cable. It will fit a microsoft pro surface just fine in the laptop pouch. I have not seen any tearing of the shoulder straps. The bottom of the backpack has metal ring holes, so do not place on the ground or in a puddle of water as the inside will then get wet. The foam support on the backpack that rest on your back helps lift off your back to let air flow through. If you want a strong backpack for school that will last a long time or for backpacking/hiking, definitely get this or a military type backpack like this that are made to handle every day use and not rip and tear. It may be pricey, but its better than spending 30 to 60 bucks every 2 or 3 months to spending one expensive amount maybe every 3 years.

EDC bag for work and play
Got this after doing a lot of research. Had this for a few weeks now and I'm more than happy with it.Went with this bag to use for both work and travelling (its carry on luggage size) and the colour means that its smart and doesn't stand out in crowd. The bag itself is well made and the organisation it has is well laid out and appropriate.Hoping it's going to last me many years to come.Only downside for me is the size of velcro patch, but I'm getting a molle panel to improve that.

3 star is probably a bit harsh
Great bag with lots of compartments to keep you kit organized when traveling. Would have been 4 star but the urban grey they sent is green and nothing like the picture. Backpack is a little on the heavy side but it rugged and looks like it weather a lot of wear and tare.....time will tell.

what a great pack. It's a lot f money to pay for a backpack and I had to convince myself that it would be worth it. I'm glad I did. it feels incredibly well made, very strong and well designed. you really get what you pay for which is why I didn't go for the cheaper options.I'm very pleased with it and would recommend.
