One of the best superman stories ever
Amazing format for an amazing comic, some of the art is a bit squished but overall I could read it very well, and the price is very good

All star rating for an all star graphic novel.
**Spoiler-free**I'm a little fussy when it comes to graphic novels. It's not because I think I'm an expert or authority on what's good or bad, it's just that I don't want to waste my hard earned cash on something poorly written or poorly drawn. Let me say that 'All Star Superman' is neither of these and well worth you parting with your money!I've always been a Batman person myself, but decided to take a punt on reading some Superman stories and seeing if 'The Man of Steel' was worth my time. I've grown up with the films but never really been tempted to see what the Superman character was like in the comics - the gritty, dark world of Gotham has always been the big draw to me! So, I did my research and this story was consistently referred to in the many 'Top Ten Superman' lists.Let's just say it's a fantastic introduction to Superman. The story, don't worry no major spoilers here, is based around Lex Luthor tricking Superman into saving the lives of some astronauts and in the process exposing himself to high levels of solar radiation. Now Superman is more powerful than ever but the cost is he is dying! He decides to 'put his house in order' and complete a set of 'bucket-list' tasks before the end.Let's just say the story is unique and I really found it hard to put down, though I did hold off reading the last part for a whole day because I didn't want it to end. The artwork is fantastic - something I think is as important as plot. The dynamic between Lex and Superman was really interesting and there were moments that really touched me, sounds cheesy but one scene with Superman visiting a hospital was quite moving - this from a man who's favourite graphic novel is The Dark Knight Returns! So, in a nutshell a fantastic read for all the right reasons, and a novel that has got me interested in looking for more top quality Superman stories. Handled the right way, Superman can be a character well worth investing in!

A worthy Superman story
I was never a huge fan of Superman up until the Man of Steel movie. I took a chance with this and was pleasantly surprised. The art style is fantastic and there's a strong, emotional story here as Superman prepares for his death. There's twists and turns with great little stories. Other characters don't really get much billing (bar Lex and Lois) as the main focus is Superman's journey. Nonetheless it's a worthy Superman story.

Great alternative take on Superman
Story all seemed a bit too busy Initially but I really enjoyed this book, lots of characters, locations and great writing. Throws you straight into the story and is a fast paced and interesting book.

The Sun
Lex Luthor sabotages a space mission and the astronauts find their ship hurtling towards the Sun. Superman rescues them but upon returning to Earth discovers he is now dying from radiation poisoning, something which Luthor had planned all along. With time running out Superman must put his affairs in order, ensuring that he leaves Earth and the people he loves protected. All Star Superman by Grant Morrison is considered to be one of the modern classics and although I enjoyed it, it wasn't up there with the greatest of Superman stories. When Superman discovers his fate, he is faced with a number of tasks and a race against time to complete them before his death. Each chapter then addresses each of these tasks but they felt a bit disjointed like they were almost standalone stories and a bit disconnected from the previous chapter. I enjoyed the interactions with Lex, Clark is the bumbling Clark of the Christopher Reeves era while Superman portrays the nobility of an all powerful deity. Jimmy Olson was a really annoying version of the character in this one and Lois Lane I felt was completely wasted. There are encounters with Bizarro in the Underverse, the inhabitants of Kandor and the fate of Jonathan Kent were all handled really well but then there were also bizarre encounters with Samson and Atlas that just didn't work. So overall it was an interesting read, made more so with the knowledge that this is the story James Gunn is using for inspiration for his rebooted DC Universe but it didn't quite live up to the hype.

A good read
An excellent story. For those unfamiliar, this is a 12 part short arch written as being outside the usual DC universe, not affecting that continuity of usual cannon. This specific volume incorporates volumes 1 and 2 of the graphic novels, which is a bargain for the price. This is a one off arch and has no sequels, which is a shame.**** spoilers ****The story is essentially that superman gets his body super exposed to the sun's radiation and is now dying. Before the dies he performs a number of tasks, and defeats a number of enemies for one last time. This includes going to the underzone, fighting lex and encounters with bizarro. In the end superman lays down his life to save the sun and the planet.**** end spoilers ****A good story arch told at a good pace. An enjoyable volume with an interesting story. The art was of superman was unique focusing more on his demeanour rather than the usual muscle ripped illustrations most of us are familiar with.A satisfying volume and recommended.

A Beautiful book that shows the truest form of Superman
A Beautiful book that shows the truest form of Superman. A paragon of selflessness, empathy and virtue ethics. This shows some really wonderful heartfelt scenes and funny moments. As well as some poignant and emotional story beats. For those who want just laser eyes and punching, this is not the book for you. I think Superman throws 1 punch during the entire book.Makes me so sad that Hack Snyder has changed the popular perception of Superman into an indifferent, superior, mopey misanthrope with a god complex (who commits war crimes and murders people). When that is not supposed to be the default version of Superman.

The perfect Superman story
This book has everything a true Superman fan wants or even a casual Superman fan that wants to know more about the mythology of the character. This is both an extremely popular Superman story and yet it tends to get overlooked. The story was even made Into an animated movie with the same story, it is very emotional, and Superman is incredibly brave and strong in this book. The art is totally unique as well. Please buy this. I couldn’t recommend it anymore

Epic and moving
An amazing piece of storytelling out of the DC continuity. Not an elseworlds per se but an alternative take on the Superman mythos by Morrison and Quitely
