Timely delivery and great quality, I was surprised to see how well its spine held up despite being such a big book.If you want to read dark tales and especially by roald Dahl, go for this book without thinking twice. It has all his short stories. In fact there are other short story collections compiled by other publishers (called Madness, Deception, Lust, etc). Do not go for them. This has all their stories already!!!

Fabulous book. This is my first short stories ever brought. The way of writing style is mesmerizing and twisting part in every story makes a reader wants to read more and more. Totally love in with this book

As we peruse this collection of short stories by Roald Dahl, we find a diabolic thread running just below the veneer of the ordinary. “Skin” is one example as are “Lamb to the Slaughter” and “The Landlady”.Another facet of the collection is that some of the stories in it have endings that are ironical or unexpected. Indeed, the author has been called an “... absolute master of the twist-in-the-tale”. The stories with such a twist are, for example, “Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel’s Coat”, “The Champion of the World”, and “Parson’s Pleasure”.Dahl has been criticised for a sexist attitude in some of his writings, but taken as a whole, his work embraces the broader complexities. In tales like “Lamb to the Slaughter” and “The Last Act”, the writer’s sympathies are clearly with the woman in the story. In another story called “The Visitor”, there is a twist in the tale wherein the philandering protagonist gets a nasty shock. In “Neck”, it is the woman who is the philanderer and it is a tribute to Dahl’s calibre as a storyteller that he conveys the twist in this tale through innuendo alone.It is worthy of note that while many of the stories in this collection are gripping and full of suspense, the quality of the storytelling is not uniform throughout. For instance, the section titled Over to You is insipid and dull, with the notable exception of two stories in that collection -- “Madam Rosette” and “They Shall Not Grow Old”.Overall, the volume bears testimony to the author’s creativity, brilliance and writing talent.

Absolutely fabulous..love the guy .have read his books ever since I was little and I love his adult fiction too..hasn't written quite enough stuff for a lifetime...keep reading them over and over again and still get the thrilling feeling from reading it the first time... incredible imagination....a book I'll treasure and pass down for sure.

This book is filled with many short stories which will leave you in a state of shock for a whole day or at least few hours. And who doesn't love Roald Dahl? One more thing, this book is not for small kids; it has some mature content.Ignore the pictures i have attached, i was in a blogging mood today😂

The substantial volume collects all of Dahl's short stories not collected in specific volumes. The stories cannot be expected to be flowery or bright and sunny. There's the typical Dahl dark-humour and wry sense of reality. An excellent wordsmith and craftsman of prose, Dahl is recommended for anyone who is graduating towards more subtle and smarter prose.

Arrived in excellent condition, was well packed, amazing collection of short stories.

I grew up with Roald Dahl in my house, and one of my High School teachers absolutely loved Dahl short stories. In my mind at least, a Roald Dahl short story is everything a short story should be. I was very surprised to find that most Americans only seem to know about Dahl because of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, and they are quite unaware of his spectacular short stories.I got this collection for my boyfriend at the time, husband now, for his birthday because he absolutely loves short stories (mostly science fiction like Bradbury, Asimov, Sturgeon, Le Guin, Clarke) and is a huge Lovecraft fan as well. Dahl short stories are strange, humorous (sometimes in a slightly twisted kind of way), tinged with varying degrees of creepy, and ends with the epitome of "the plot twist". I was sure that Roald Dahl would be right up his alley. I was right. He absolutely loved it! He read the whole collection back-to-back in less than a month and has re-read it since at least once or twice that I know of. I feel like many Americans miss out on these spectacular short stories, which is a pity. I would highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys a good short story, and some black humour.

Read all the stories 30 years ago. Great to rediscover that pleasure once again.

Casi todas las historias enganchan y algunas son apasionantea. Dejas pasar un mes y la vuelves a leer y aún mejor! Dahl es uno de los pocos escritores que no escribe mucho ni poco, lo justo, sin mucha berborrea, manteniendo la tensión. Es mejor que vayas a por este libro a que compres de poco en poco porque al final gastas más. Tremendamente recomendable! El libro de mi vida! Y el de mi pareja! Compartimos lectura y luego hablamos de la historia. Hay alguna flojita pero son la minoria. Brutal compra, no tiene precio esta joya.
