Best HTPC/Android Box Remote.
I recently bought a non-smart LED TV ( Sanyo 108.2 cm (43 inches) XT-43S7100F Full HD LED IPS TV (Black) ) and decided to pair it up with my old laptop (Partial working keyboard & non-working trackpad) to serve it as an HTPC. The research thus begins for a good compact keyboard/remote and searched on youtube, various reviews on websites including Amazon.in / com etc. Initially inclined towards an air mouse keyboard but later decided against it mainly due to the RII & the popularity. Have been using it for a month and my observations as belowLikes:- Original RII Product- Completely awed by the touchpad response. Very smooth like a real touchpad. The texture of touchpad is really nice.- Literally, we have the full keyboard in hand (except manufacturer customised functions) in a compact format- Backlit is an added bonus. It has 3 modes viz no backlit, medium & strong- Ergonomically designed to fit the palm of both hands. Matte finish is a welcome addition- Works readily with youtube (play/pause keys works) and other applications including Kodi / Windows Media center / Plex etc- Inbuilt battery and lasts long. Charger cable is bundled which also can be used as extension cable- Plug & play. The USB attachment nicely tucked inside the remote itself- Solid feedback on pressing the buttons- Works with almost all environments. Have tested with Linux (elementary, ubuntu, mint & Fedora), Android x86 (Phoenix & x86) and Windows (7 & 10)- Have played games like Asphalt 8 Nitro (in Windows)- Tested up to 7 meters distance and had no issues.- The remote goes to sleep mode automatically to save battery- Can wakeup the HTPC / Android box from sleep by pressing any button similar to normal keyboardDislikes- By default, the backlit is set to medium and there is no way to change it. Though some may prefer it, I would have been happier with no backlit at all by default just for extra battery juice- Some functions don't seem to work viz locking the trackpad- Not a real keyboard replacement, only for light use.- Keys can't be customised. Maybe one can use a software to remap key in windows/android- Heard it won't work with Amazon Fire TV- Longevity needs to be tested- No capslock/tab indicator- One need to press any of the buttons to wake up the remote once sleep. Moving fingers over touchpad won't workOverall, a must-have product for HTPC & other Android boxes. Would strongly suggest to go ahead with RII product and not any other Chinese make.

Product is different from what is shown...
The product delivered is different from what seller shows here. It's not Rii i8+... Its generic one... Works fine... Build quality is average.. it feels like been cheated...

Bang for a Buck !
This keyboard is well built and has good response time. When waking up from the sleep mode, this keyboard does not miss a letter unlike the counterfit that i have. The battery is inbuilt and has enough capacity to hold up that charge for long time. The track pad does a nice job. Its not sticking or lagging and is very responsive. Also has 3 mode dpi settingsFinally this one is a backlit version. There are 2 modes, illumination is good enough to watch movies at night not much which will distract u from the screen which is good. The buttons and keys are clicky as they should be and the keys are big enough so that u don't miss a key and press someother instead of the intended one.The ergonomic design fits very easily in our hand and does not slip off. All the keys are all in range of the thumb so you might not face a problem to reach the keys.Down side !Still uses mini usb instead of a micro usb.The pictures have a comparison of the built quality and the other features.(The counterfit keyboard is based on the i8 model and this one is i8+)

Get the Latest Model
Amazon Prime Delivery was superfast, received this Mini Keyboard on the very next day. However, I received the Older Model, without the Charging Cable and Instruction Manual. On connecting it to my Mi Box it worked well for some time, then started disconnecting repeatedly. So, I charged it for around 30 minutes and tried it again; but same problem. So I asked for a Replacement which was again delivered very fast. Thankfully the Replacement I received was the Newer Model. Check out both the images and you will notice the difference. See the MEDIA KEYS next to the VOLUME PAD.Both these models came with a MICRO USB socket and not the Mini USB, which was a great relief. However, use a low power charger, as the lowest you get these days is 5V 1Amp. So try to get the charger which came with the older Samsung Feature Phones. This keyboard needs only 5V 300 mA charger. Or you can charge it from the USB port of your laptop. The New Model came with a Charging cum OTG cable, Instruction Manual and a Thanks Card from Riitek. This model is working very fine, although not all the media keys will work as expected. The RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON works as the BACK BUTTON on the Mi Box Remote. Press and hold the ALT BUTTON followed by the TAB BUTTON to switch between the Apps running in the Background. You can keep pressing the ALT BUTTON and move the Arrow Cursor to CLEAR ALL and close all the Apps.In the Mi Box you can move the ARROW CURSOR with the TRACKPAD, but you may not be able to select with the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON; in such a case use the DIRECTION PAD on the right and select with the OK BUTTON in the centre.I discovered one nifty trick, use the OTG cable or USB extension cable and attach the USB RECEIVER DONGLE to it and let it dangle in such a way that there is nothing in between THE RECEIVER DONGLE and the KEYBOARD, then you will not have any disconnection problems.Overall this is a very good product with nice build quality and durable material used, however it is a bit overpriced. To conclude, I am quite happy and satisfied with it. It is a must have for Android TV Box like the Mi Box 4k and Android Tablets. You will Love using it.

Compacto, practico y facil de usar. / Compact, useful and easy to use.
I first gave it a lower evaluation. When it arrived I connected the keyboard right away to my Smart tv Samsung, and it did not work properly, it worked with the internet but not with any of the apps. I was disappointed and came right away and expressed my frustration evaluating the product poorly. The next day I connect the Rii Mini I8+ to my other smart tv LG, and voila! it worked PERFECTLY, in all of its functions and with all apps and menus. The range was incredible I was able to use the keyboard even at 15 meters from the tv (and around the wall).. I then went back to my Samsung and plugged a cable USB keyboard, and that's when I noticed IT IS NOT The Rii Mini I8+ keyboard it is the TV that simply does not allow you to add a keyboard for certain functions.I know give this compact and functional keyboard a 5 star and a "10" (and apologies) to the RiiTek group... :D

I will replace this with a touchscreen when I find something I like. So how is this working out for me
Having lived with this for a few weeks now I feel it is time to write a review. This is my only human input device for my audio playback PC. Ultimately, I will replace this with a touchscreen when I find something I like. So how is this working out for me? Pretty good. It takes a bit of getting used to. It has multiple ways to left and right mouse click. I settled on the left/right mouse buttons on the left and right side of the touch pad, there is another pair on the left side as well as the 1 finger, 2 finger touch pad trick which I have not used. I did have to really slow the mouse click speed down as I just could not double click the buttons quick enough(or tap), never had a problem with a real mouse. I have small hands; my thumbs can easily reach all the keys on each half of the keyboard. The touch pad is... well a touch pad. I am not a fan of them and this one works just about as well as any I have ever used. The directions as to how to single click/double click/scroll are printed on the pad, not an overlay to be removed by the user. I thought this clever. I set pointer speed to maximum so a single stroke across the pad moves the pointer the maximum distance. I also had to turn of windows "Enhance Pointer Precision". Wireless range is not an issue, it worked fine from over 25 feet, farther than I can see the audio system monitor. Using the shift key with characters on the left side is a bit cumbersome. I have to let go of the right side to be able to reach the left keys with my thumb. Bigger hands may not have this issue. The caps lock might be the better way… as long as you remember to caps unlock! The backlight button is very handy as I often listen to music in the dark. Easy to find in the once you remember where it is. I have not run the internal battery to empty, it lasted over a week before I plugged it back in for a charge. I would have really preferred a replaceable battery. I use the lithium batteries (not the rechargeable lithium ion) in my wireless mouse and keyboards and get a least a year’s use... this on my daily use work PC. Simpler to just replace the battery every year than finding it dead and plug it in. Another clever idea, the USB cable to recharge the device also has a USB A female port on it for the USB receiver. Waking up the device after the 3 minute inactivity time expires (blue led is off when asleep) requires only a quick press of a key brings it back to life, the function key works nicely for this without performing any real actions. The three minutes does seem a bit brief as I am always having to wake it up. I have not dropped it to determine its durability. All in all, a handy device. I can see it being even better while reclined in front of a big TV surfing the internet.

The Holy Grail of Bedroom sized HTPC Remotes?
Might i have stumbled across the long sought for answer to my HTPC dreams? I have tried (and returned/smashed) several wireless Keyboard/Mouse combos and didnt expect much from this one, especially for the price. I have tried Lenovos funky little thing, a couple other little candy bar sized Chinese offerings and couldnt stand any of them.I have purchased a couple IOGear combos and they worked great but didnt stand up to the abuse when dropped off of the TV trays or end tables. I also still use Logitechs 830 for the main TV in our living room and it works fine. The issue with the IOGear and Logitech 830 are the size.I wanted something for use in the bedroom, it needed to be backlit and needed to be small. (but not to small). It has white backlighting which IMO is so much better than some of the blue ones out there. Had a little range issue when trying to use 12' away across the bedroom. I initially had the USB dongle plugged directly into my NUC and pointed towards the wall behind the TV. Nothing was working and i kept seeing the yellow light flashing.I plugged in the supplied Y Charging/Extension cable which has the Mini USB plug on one side and a USB receptacle on the other. I plugged the dongle into the USB side and layed it just under the TV which sits on top of our bureau. It hasnt missed a beat since. I have only had this a week, so who knows how long the battery will last between charges. I have used it several times now and both the wife and i are impressed. The range issue concerns me but so far so good. If your not planning on using from a mile away and can set the dongle up for line of sight (not that it should matter), then im whole heartily recommending this little gem.If it continues working well for the bedroom TV, i may pick up a 2nd for a backup to our Living room TV. The Logitech 830 works great (at more than twice the price for a refurbed one), but it is still a little bulky for tossing around the living room.Pros:Small but not too smallWhite Backlighting!Windows KeyIncluded Y Cable for charging and USB dongle.Track pad works and works well on our 42" TVPrice!TextureCons:Range issue if USB dongle not positioned correctlyNon replaceable battery?
