Worked for a bit, then something shorted and there was a burning smell
It was shipped in a small and un-padded box. While it included an enclosure, the provided fan is much too large for it. After some use, something on the device shorted out and there was a burning smell coming from it.

Immature SBC
This is the worst SBC I've ever come across. Despite 25 years experience in this area and a full day of attempts, I have not been able to get Linux up and running properly on this board. It is clear that I am in good company, there are plenty of report of failing installs. This kit is also put together in a very strange way:(1) The heatsink + fan are WAY too high to fit in the case. The clearance is perhaps 5mm, this fan is at least 20mm.(2) The little uart-to-usb board works at 3.3V and 5V only. The Hikey960's uart interfaces work at 1.8V. That's BAD!(3) The uart connectors don't fit as the female is spaced 2mm and the male is 2.5mm.
