A great intro. Support files are helpful, too.
You have to take the "Learn XYZ in 24 Hours" books at face value. You are not going to get in depth coverage of every feature. Once you get past that, you should be OK.There was an ample supply of support files and accompanying videos. They are worthwhile. Make sure if you get a used copy that the CD is included in your package. One minor downside: the author is a bit dismissive of some of the features, without giving you a solid understanding of why. This is not a big deal, as he still bothers to explain at least the fundamentals of the feature he prefers less before going on about the one he prefers more. With the maturity of the 3ds max product, there are a lot of different ways to do almost everything. The many nuances of texture mapping and UVW unwrapping are not covered as solidly as you might need to get a good start. But there are other texture-specific books you can get to help out in those areas. My only caution: consider that this book is going on five years old now. So if you want "complete" coverage, seek out one of the more expensive books published in the last year, including those published by Autodesk. New features like Substance and the latest renderers will be better covered there. But if you are just getting started, this book will serve you well to bootstrap on even 3ds max 2022. And who knows? Maybe the author will release an updated version?

That kind of sucks sense I am more of a visual learner
So far I am in the forth hour in the book. The arthur describes well enough for you to get the just of the lesson. unfortunately for the kindle version they do not include any videos. It showin in the kindle that there are videos, but there are no ways to watch them....That kind of sucks sense I am more of a visual learner. All in all if you are a beginner I would suggest you get this, and if you have any questions, well there is always youtube.
