Works and great quality
These worked great! I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in a wide mouth Tattler lid using a regular drill bit. I wanted to start with a 1/2 inch bit instead of the 5/8 to see if it was enough space for the grommet, and it was. I figure this will give a better air tight seal. I'm going order more of these to make more fermentation jars, because they make great gifts. Shipping was fast and they also included fermentation instructions, which was nice because this was the first time at fermentation for me.

Work great.
Excellent product, perfect for adding an airlock to my fermentation jars. Fit the airlock snugly, have made several batches of lacto-fermented pickles and kimchi with them. Just spent time tonight making some new lids. Came back to look up the drill bit size in the product description. Glad the tip is listed. Keep having to make more jars since my significant other keeps giving the jars away. One small note, they recommend a 1/2, or 5/8's drill bit for these. That is a fairly large drill bit and many drill boxes do not have bits that large. You may have to buy a drill bit. I actually ended up grabbing one of my router bits. Pre-drilling a smaller hole also helps.

Just what I needed
Very nice & flexible. Just what I needed for making our DIY canning jar fermenters. We use the Ball plastic lids, these grommets, the silicone seals and air locks with wide mouth quart Ball jars.. Works out well for pickles and sour kraut, in our case.

Hand Tool Hole Punch (on Amazon) works Great With These, if you don't Have A Drill
Amazon sells a hole punch tool which works with your hammer to make the correct 9/16" holes in standard canning jar, plastic lids, to fit these grommets. If you don't have an electric drill, you can buy the hand-too,l on Amazon, for $10.77 (and it has free, Amazon Prime delivery!). Search Amazon for "General Tools, 1280N Hollow Steel Punch", (size 9/16"). With these grommets and bulk packs of air valves, you can make fermentation lids with recycled or new, bulk packs of plastic lids. It is much less expensive to put fermentation lids together from bulk packs of grommets, valves and plastic lids, than buying pre-assembled lids with valves already in. Have fun fermenting raw kraut, veggies, kumbocha and more!

Unsolicited religious propaganda included with my order
The grommets are fine. Shipping was a little slow. For whatever reason, the seller thought it was appropriate to include a booklet of unsolicited religious propaganda with my order. I double checked, and this is completely against Amazon seller policy. So inappropriate. No issue with your philanthropic mission, but keep your religion OUT of my purchases.

Use 1/2" hole for an airtight seal
For me, the grommets did leak slightly when inserted into the recommended 5/8" lid hole, unless the airlock was inserted pretty far into the lid. The recommended plastic Ball Mason jar lids sometimes leak slightly also. This is probably just fine. A slight leak will not let much oxygen into the fermentation jar, and many people ferment with nothing but a cheesecloth covering the brine. But for a perfectly airtight solution, I ended up using the plastic Tattler reusable canning lids and drilling a 1/2" hole.

So Excited for the Little Things in Life!
Over the moon about these! I'm fermenting all kinds of things! **YOU MUST BUY a 9/16" DRILL BIT**. (I bought this one: 9/16" X 6" Speedbor Max Drill Bit - overkill but it worked great and the price was right). TAPE both sides of the plastic mason lids with several layers of masking tape and drill slowly....then slip in the grommet. PERFECT!!!!!!

Affordable part of a reliable small batch fermenting system.
I've got a variety of fermentation vessels and systems. These grommets coupled with plastic wide mouth Ball lids, silicone lid seals, and an air lock certainly make using wide mouth mason jars a very easy, foolproof and affordable way to do small batch ferments. Thanks!

Excellent seal. Very tight fit.
Super easy to add to plastic canning jar lids. I used the wide mouth lids and had no problem getting them in. They are a little tough to get in but in order to get a very tight seal, I fully expected a tight fit. Just be patient and work it and it will slide right in and seal nicely. Was this helpful? Let me know!

Who doesn't like grommets !?!
Good grommets anyway. I liked these very much as they are quality and work just as they should. Used with the plastic Ball Mason Jar lids they create an airtight seal by drilling the proper sized whole for the grommet to squeeze into.I use them often and they are easy to remove; wash; and easy to install in the lids for use. I use them along with the Mason Jar Reusable Silicone Seals (WIDE MOUTH) to create my own perfect fermentation jars. Just add a fermentation lock and your in business!

I recommend drilling kind of slow for a cleaner hole
These work as described. If you are drilling through plastic, I recommend drilling kind of slow for a cleaner hole. The first one I drilled fast, and it got kind of lopsided and weird. I was using a spade bit if that matters. These fit the airlocks.Incidentally, I'm using a plastic bucket lid, which might be thicker than the jar lid, and they snap in just fine.

The Best
Awesome seller and awesome product. Do not use plain rubber grommets as may have poison chemicals in them. Use these with a 9/16" hole in cap, cut with a hole saw. They will work great with airlocks. Very fast shipping. Even beat my prime orders.

Great. Pricey.
I have been using fermentation locks, food grade grommets, drilled Tattler brand re-usable canning lids, Pickle Pebbles, and quart jars to make small batch vegetable fermenters. This is a lot cheaper than buying readymade fermenters. Seems pricey for the quantity.

but the end product is perfect. Just what I need for my odd sized ...
They do the job well. I used my 1/2" drill bit and it was a bit of a tussle to get the grommets in, but the end product is perfect. Just what I need for my odd sized jar lids. I now have lots of fermenting jars ready for the Summer harvest.
