The latest edition to the EarthBox container gardening system family, the EarthBox Root & Veg Garden Kit can accommodate larger root crops with its deep growing space. Easily grow veggies such as carrots, parsnips, rutabagas - or even tomatoes, eggplants, and cucumbers. Our tried and true unique container gardening system uses sub-irrigated technology, meaning you provide water through a fill tube that leads to a bottom reservoir under the potting mix and plant's roots. This system conserves water and fertilizer and allows the plants to pull water as needed. The integrated overflow drain takes away the possibility of overwatering. The EarthBox container gardening systems are proven to help your plants grow faster, bigger and tastier than ever. Try this alternative method to in-ground, traditional gardening. You'll be pleased with the results! The Root & Veg Garden Kit includes 1 EarthBox R&V Container, 1 R&V Aeration Screen, 1 R&V Water Fill Tube, 1 R&V B/W Reversible Mulch Cover, 1 R&V Red Mulch Cover, .5 lbs. of 8-3-5 Organic Fertilizer or 7-7-7 Non-Organic Fertilizer, .5 lbs. of Organic Dolomite, and Instruction Sheet & Planting Guide.

Root crops in a box plus anything else
I wouldn't be without my Earthboxes; a "box" devotee for over 20 years; still have original rectangular rolling trellis pots; yes the trellis connectors get eventually sun damaged, but if you set up relationship with company representative, you will be informed of free shipping offers etc. Original casters operative and no chipping or cracking of plastic pot material. White will age to ivory over time, so a color is a good choice, helps warm the soil and easier to keep clean looking. I have good luck with plants that need consistent moisture as reservoir is easy & quick way to water. For me, they are foolproof and makes patio gardening easy from nearby chair.

Great system, could use a set of wheels
Earthbox is the gold standard of container gardening systems. Learned about them and other container gardens at a seminar at the local library. Waited to post this review until our stuff really started growing. We have had vegetables growing in containers before, but nothing as sophisticated as these boxes. Assembled correctly they’re self watering and weed free. Comes with a false bottom (aeration screen), water filler tube, “mulch covers”, fertilizer & minerals. Some kind of wheel set or a caddy would be nice. Filled and planted it’s tough to move this around.

Best garden boxes
Earthbox always grows the best vegetables! Even a complete beginner to gardening can grow anything in these successfully. I live in a desert and it’s so important to get the watering right. With earthbox I can water just the right amount and also conserve water usage with their water reservoir (tells you when to stop watering). I’m looking forward to using them again this season. I am so excited to see Amazon/this seller has them for better prices (cost + shipping) than the EarthBox store. They also arrive much much faster! I will buy again from this seller once they have more in stock!

This concept of growing really works!
We've had the larger sized Earthboxes and now are trying this deeper one for root crops. We ended up planting a tomato plant in each one, as I forgot to start seedling for the carrots. This system works very well and after the initial set up, is pretty much self sustaining. The only thing I have to do is remember to water....pretty simple. It's well worth the money.

Beware of Replacement Costs
Beware, the only place that sells replacement covers for this model is Earthbox itself at a whopping $2 a piece and $8 shipping. I will be looking for instructions on-line for making my own.

Could be Great, bur Design Needs Revision
I love Earthbox and Earthbox Jr., and was very excited about this new design. Unfortunately this one is not up to the same standards, and is not ready for release yet. First of all, it is not a new design, but is Novelty's old "Countryside Square Tub Planter" retrofitted with a new interior grate, fill tube and drainage hole to make it a self-watering planter. That could still have been a great idea, but the quality of the grate is flimsy, the fill tube does not rest securely in the box like the previous Earthboxes, and the first batch of boxes had the drainage hole in the wrong location (including mine). This defeats the wicking system and leaves the bottom of the soil media soggy. I can see the planting mix through the drainage hole.I think a redesign could make this a great product. I love the dimensions and would like to use it for a single tomato plant. But the grate, fill and and drainage system need to be redesigned with heavy duty materials and interior supports and stabilizers like the original Earthbox. There also needs to be better quality control so that the holes are not placed in the wrong location. Those boxes should never have been sold.

good product
I have a bunch of the rectangular Earth boxes. I got this square box to put a large Mandevilla vine in a pot under my trellis & not have to water it constantly. It looked HUGE when it arrived but it is actually a good size for my purpose. (I've kept the vine wintered over for 3 years now.) I couldn't put the plastic cover on so I'll just have to watch that it doesn't get waterlogged by tipping out the excess water after it rains. I might try to rig somewhat of a cover around the base of the vine when high, dry summer hits.

Great for a Small Space
I have been using Earthboxes for years and I love the gardening I have done with them. High production in small spaces that are easy to care for and flexible when changing crops as the growing season progresses. It is nice to have different design options to fit living spaces. I hope Earthbox comes up with other designs.
