If your 4Runner has these lights come one, try buying this replacement seal before heading over to the dealership, or before you buy a new gas cap. It's a cheap way of possibly fixing this problem. If the engine light is blinking, the car should be taken to a mechanic immediately, and a new seal will not fix the problem. But before you make any repairs, buy this product and see if it fixes the problem. The dealership will not tell you if you have a leaky gas cap, and will probably fix something completely unrelated to this problem.Just pop off the old seal from the fuel cap, which might require the use of a screwdriver. The rubber seal might be tight and very inelastic; you might even notice small cracks and tears in the rubber. Once it's off, give the cap and the seal groove a good clean, and slip on the new seal. The new seal will slide into the groove much easier, even without a screwdriver since it's much more elastic.The lights should go away in about 2 days. If the light is still on, you might need to purchase a new gas cap. If you're prone to overturning the cap, there might be a small crack in cap. If you replace the gas cap and light hasn't turned off in 2-3 days, then you should head over to the mechanic. This $8 seal can potentially save you $20 if you guy a gas cap, or a few hundred dollars at the dealership.

Saved $$$, especially with having used a scan code device purchased some time ago to reset the dreaded Check Engine... P0456 Evap Emission Leak code. Gas cap seal was truly worn out. Replaced and over 800 miles later... Check Engine light.

Update: 8 months later the P0440 on my V8 Lexus came back... but I've been driving it really hard, and there's been a lot of rain lately. This is so inexpensive and easy, I'm going to get another, and I'm confident that's the right choice.Original from April 2019- LOVE THIS. I love DIY anything, but I also have using plastic unnecessarily, especially if it can't be recycled. This slipped on to the stock OEM gas cap (with tether) of my Lexus SC430 / Toyota Soarer beautifully replacing the old ring which had a visible crack and was causing a check engine light, p0456 if I recall, the same code this ring has fixed for others with V8 Toyota / Lexus motors. I love how little waste there was, the fit is great, rubber quality was pretty good. I could only be happier if they used an advanced poly compound silicone, but really this is pretty darn good, especially for the price. For LESS than 25% what the dealer charges for a new setup, before having to install and figure it the tether, you can have this. I used a soft spudger (lol look them up, def worth the $3) but any sturdy flat soft plastic tool should be able to get the old ring off easily without making your hands smell like old dinosaurs. Install is easier than that kids toy with the colored rings / donuts you impale on a wobbly spike.

Funcionó muy bien, instalé el empaque nuevo y luego de unos días de uso normal de mi 4Runner, quitó los códigos del tablero, espero que dure mucho tiempo así.
