Brilliant electronic rodent killer
Brilliant electronic rodent killerIn the last seven years I purchased five electronic rat killers which have been used to catch mice. They are excellent for catching mice (I live in a country area where mice are are a perpetual problem). Whilst the units are effective, there have been a number of problems with them:1. They are very difficult to clean and cleaning one of the them I damaged the connections, so abandoned it.2. If changing the batteries is inadvertently overlooked, easy to do when tucked away in the attic - even best batteries need changing every year or more often if catching mice - the unit is ruined, as happened to another unit.3. If the unit is tucked away in a difficult position, such as in the attic, this involves involves climbing up to check the unit regularly.I have now purchased two of these relatively new units which are ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT as they have overcome all the above problems:1. The top of the unit is removed so access for removing the mouse and cleaning is very easy.2. The unit can be connected to the mains, but even if using batteries, these are the larger ones, type D, which should last much longer. Further, the batteries are held separately in the upper part of the unit and even if the batteries leak, it should not damage the main unit.3. The unit has a remote 1 metre lead with an LED at the which flashes when a mouse is caught, so can be placed in a position which can be easily seen without having to climb in to the attic. Even better, although not advertised or stated on the instructions, when a mouse is caught, there is a beeping sound from the unit as well as the remote flashing LED.Incidentally, the running cost using the mains adapter appears to be negligible at about 1 watt i.e. 42 days uses about a 1kw unit at an average cost of about 15 pence,.The extra cost of this unit is well spent and now purchased a third unit and will replace the other original units in due course.I am writing this supplemental to my original comments and having viewed some of the adverse comments.I now have the three units and they continue to work, although very few mice are now caught as I believe I have now successfully almost eliminated them! I have found the most successful bait to be peanut butter and can stay there quite some time before being renewed. The top unit that slides off is quite stiff as to ensure it closes property there is a microswitch, but when one gets used to it it is easy to use and there is no danger of damaging the unit. I have not tried fitting with batteries, but always use the AC adaptor as it uses so little power. Incidentally, I lost an AC adaptor as it fell in to a cavity. I asked Firmax if I could purchase a replacement, but very kindly they sent me one free virtually by return, so obviously a very supportive supplier. Most definitely still a five star rating. It is still a five star review

Ineffective Rubbish
Squirrels enter the trap, eat the peanuts and then leave alive and well. The device doesn't do what it says, ie exterminate rodents. The device also doesn't have a test function to check it is capable of exterminating anything, just a power light to say it’s switched on. Utter rubbish, save your money and buy a gun.

Is it suitable for squirrels.
This item is advertised as suitable for mice, rats, squirrels and chipmunks. However the instruction leaflet in the box states it is not recommended for squirrels.

Rats blasted effectively
This is a review for: Fimax Tech Electronic Rat Trap Killer, High Voltage Mouse Zapper - Humane, Easy and Clean Extermination of Mice & Rats, Small Squirrels and Other Similar Rodent [UPGRADED VERSION]We have rats in our ceiling, between the floors - awful feeling. I deployed this rat trap in a space up there and had no luck. until I found their access point (through a plastic air vent in our garage - thanks British Gas for not fitting metal ones....)Once deployed near their access to the house it took a couple of weeks before it zapped our first rat. The trap worked a charm and the extended LED was a really useful feature because the trap was in a dark area. The biggest problem (and nothing to do with the effectiveness of the trap) is getting the rats to investigate it. We found cat biscuits and bird feed a good bait. The only things I'd like the manufacturer to consider in the design is the mains lead could be a metre longer. If you have the trap on the floor, then work-surface level mains plugs are too high for the mains. The batteries are effective. And the separation of top and bottom is hard work for me, suffering from arthritis as I am.Other than that, this trap is proving effective for us. No problems with battery compartment and the build quality is robust.

Perfect for those that live near Rothschilds Estate in South Bucks.
I use this in the loft using the mains adapter (that came with the device) as the batteries can wear down quick if you catch a lotThis really works well. Its big enough to catch the large pests. When it kills something humanely, it emits a beeping sound so you can hear its time to empty the device and reset it without having to go up into the loft (just be aware it usually goes off at night so if you sleep anywhere near it you may hear the beep).before I was using a traditional rat trap, but found they were always sprung but nothing inside. this electric device has been catching every day and the sizes of the catch vary so I can see why the larger traditonal traps don't work. I've just bought another 2.Perfect for those that live near Rothschilds Estate in South Bucks.

Works
This product works fine but it is not easy to disassemble and reassemble. It comes with a flashing LED on a wire. What it could do with is the light plus an alarm sound when it is tripped. It needs to work something like a wireless door bell system because the quiet audio bleep cannot be heard when the device is placed in the loft space. Battery power last a good length of time.

Is it working or not
I cannot tell if the system is live as no lights come on to say it is active. Have put trap down but nothing caught and bait taken. So it is not a good product even though I asked manufacturer. Who were not much use.
