Fabulous culinary adventure!
This is my favourite Rick Stein book. It's more than a cookery book; it's a cultural journey around the Mediterranean, and is probably the book I go to more than any other in my extensive collection. I go there to find a recipe I wish to follow, for inspiration when preparing a meal for friends, and often just for the sheer pleasure of reading about the various Mediterranean villages, town or cities Rick describes in this excellent book.I can honestly say since buying this book and watching the DVD which complements it, that our eating habits have changed; we frequently make a meal of mezze, my use of spices has become more extensive, and we are eating far more vegetables than previously. But even if all you want to do is make your own far superior hummus than shop-bought, even if you just want to try and re-create that wonderful aubergine dip you tasted at the restaurant, even if you only want to have a go at making your own flatbread, and nothing more - buy this book for the culinary and cultural adventure it will take you on!

A culinary delight
What a charming, natural and enthusiastic presenter, making food and recipes so interesting. I learnt a lot about the countries, their cultures and traditions, the geography of the area, and how people survive despite the harsh terrain. All the dishes were very enjoyable to watch, and back in Simi(?) we watched Mr Stein actually cooking some of the dishes himself. Why do these chefs make everything look so easy?A very pleasant relaxing series, and I look forward to more of the same. However, for the food police there would be far too much salt, sugar and butter, but the people thrived on it. Oh, and the odd glass of wine, too.

Cooking at its finest
I left a review regarding Rick Stein's Indian adventures which expresses how I feel about this particular DVD. The quality of these Rick Stein DVDs and accompanying books are consistent in terms of professionalism and are always a pleasure to watch. Unlike certain chefs who depend on drama and entertainment value to boost their careers, Rick Stein proves, yet again and again, that cooking is his life passion. His genuine enthusiasm flows through each of these DVDs and will draw you into his fascinating culinary world as he travels across countries, cultures and entire continents.

Great voyage
Love Rick Stein as a chef but this is not his best Dvd! I am interested in cooking with spices and learning how they work together, so interesting to see how each country has a take on a dish. I loved the fact that he met Francisco de Mosta in Venice as I have also purchased the same route by Francisco which is excellent.

Feel good food show
Rick Stein's enthusiasm for the food pretty much wherever he goes is infectious, and you feel like you're on holiday with him having a great time exploring the culinary offerings of the countries he passes through. Occasionally he comes across something he doesn't like, but usually he's eating "the best I've ever had". Good to watch on those dark winter evenings to cheer you up, transporting you back to the memories of those summer holidays.
