ELIKI EXTRA VIRGIN GREEK OLIVE OIL 3L

I went to Chicago to visit and ended up in the city's remaining Greek deli. The shopkeeper recommended an artisan olive oil which I bought. Then while I continued to shop a woman came in and bought four of these! Well, this was too big to take with me so after I came home I bought this. It's a delightful basic buttery olive oil. I usually buy just a local California basic olive oil but now I'm using this with it. The slight difference in taste intrigues me.I JUST MADE MY FOURTH PURCHASE.This olive oil has become my go-to olive oil. I may use another for a finishing drizzle but this is the best everyday all-the-time olive oil. The dependable buttery taste can’t be beat, and I grew up on great California olive oils. In fact my finishing oils are super fine organic imported oils from Greece and Spain. Amazingly I’ve left California olive oils behind—probably because every harvest is so challenging and prices don’t match quality. Now I still chase California red wines. They are still wonderful.Here’s the thing: You and I probably don’t have the same heritage or taste buds. But if we do share Mediterranean preferences, you owe it to yourself to step away from habit and go on a tasting trip of imported olive oils. Try different olive oils on bread or feta cheese or a simple salad of cucumber, radishes, and sweet onion or scallions. I don’t use bread but do use other two because I wanted an oil to bring out what I love about feta and these veggies. My finishing oil changes frequently because I’m that curious. But my go-to oil stays the same now—Eliki.

This is the best tasting Olive Oil our household has ever used. We've been buying it for years, andintend to keep doing so. Have tried many others, they don't come close, a slightly sweet delicious tastewith no 'after taste' as so many oils have. Glad we found it again at a better price.

I just received my 3 L can, and on the side, unfortunately it says Best before September 2018, making me wonder just how old it is?Very, very disappointing.The flavor is OK.I then checked further, and on the side of the can:"Eliki extra virgin olive oil comes from Aegialia, and is named after the ancient city of Achaia Confederacy which flourished in the fourth and fifth centuries BC."When I looked this up on Google Earth:Aegialia which is a tiny village on a very small island in the Dodecanese Islands, and about 20 miles south east of Naxos.Achaia is part of mainland Greece, in an area that includes Athens.The oil is bottled by Agricultural Cooperative Union in Aeghion, which is in mainland Greece.UPDATE May 13The plastic pull-out pourer on the top of the can pulled out of the can yesterday.I emailed the producer about the sell by date last week, and have heard nothing back.

This brand was recommended by a Chicago restaurateur.He was so right, you cannot find a taste like this on US supermarket shelves or bottled.Global demand for olive oil has exploded, big brands have slowly lost their taste, and our taste buds have adjusted accordingly..for the worse.This is why I say this oil will reset your expectations.The taste of this olive oil took me back to my childhood. Olive oil went on so many of our home-cooked dishes, and this oil reminded me of the Spanish-made oil my parents put on our table: buttery, virgin enough you can taste just a hint of the olive...without this flavor overpowering your dish, little acidity, right viscosity.It's a large can, but it goes fast...just superb!

just opened the can and it is absolutely delicious. wonderful flavor without being over-bearing. checked to buy another to have in stock and it is currently unavailable.........yikes. i hope it won't be for long. this is one extra virgin olive oil i want to always have in stock. just purchased two more cans (3/2017) .. this oil is difficult to find available all year round and that's a shame as it's one of the very best.

Excellent olive oil at a reasonable price
