Utterly Delightful
My kids love Salina Yoon, and her latest title is no exception. The illustrations are absolutely charming, and the story, told through speech bubbles, is simultaneously subtle and simple enough for toddlers to catch the humor. This is no small accomplishment - even the Pigeon and Duckling books by Mo Willems go over my 4-year-old's head sometimes, but not this.Big Duck thinks she knows everything and does most of the talking, but it's the nonverbal Little Duck who fixes her mistakes (and she makes a lot of mistakes). Little Duck is the Teller to Big Duck's Penn. Porcupine rounds out their trio of friends by (often hesitantly) participating in Big Duck's schemes and providing occasional commentary. The three stories in this volume are at an easy reader level, but it also works beautifully as a story book - it doesn't have that stilted rhythm that easy readers often suffer from. The first time we read it, I asked my older son what had happened in each story, and he recounted the narrative flawlessly, including the subtle humor. There's subtlety for adults, too - at the end of each story, after Little Duck has saved the day, we see him breaking the fourth wall and giving the reader a look of exasperation that says it all. We fell your pain, Little Duck.

Delightful!
Every since I discovered the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems, I've been keeping my eyes open for books with similar qualities. Qualities such as delightful, expressive illustrations, short, funny stories, and great characters. I'm delighted to say that I have found such a series in this new series by Salina Yoon. I love the bright, colorful illustrations, they are very eye-catching and appealing. The characters make me smile and even laugh. And I have no doubt that young listeners/readers will love the fact that Little Duck is the one with all the good sense (in the first story, Little Duck is the only one who notices the dark clouds moving in as Big Duck and Porcupine plan a picnic). Each book has three short stories in it. In this first volume, the first story revolves around a planned picnic that goes wrong when rain clouds move in; the second story involves Big Duck trying desperately to remember something while Little Duck does his best to remind her what it is she's forgotten; and story three involves a camping trip that Big Duck makes way to complicated.

Very good early reader book
This is an adorable book. It is great for early readers who are a little past just sight words. My Kindergartener is a fan. We have bought another Duck, Duck, Porcupine book after reading this one.

Grandmother loves this book!
Love reading this author's books with my two grandchildren ages 5 & 6. They are starting to read now and the repetitive wording helps them to learn and retain new words. I highly recommend this author's books for children at the early reading ages.

Good Kid Humor
This book was quite cute. The kids enjoyed reading it and acted out the voice of the Porcupine and the Duck. The humor was perfect for 6 and 8 year olds
