Black Stallion Premium Grain Elkskin Welding Gloves - X-Large

I bought these at the recommendation of my welding class instructor. I originally started the class with some expensive gloves I had bought at the local big box hardware store. This was my first beginner welding class and it was purely stick welding. A very important tip I didn't realize is when you are stick welding you are going to want gloves with threading that isn't exposed. The gloves I bought at the hardware store were expensive but had all the threading around the fingers exposed on the outside. When you start stick welding and the sparks are flying what eventually happens to gloves like these is the exposed outer threads melt or burn away. Then the gloves literally falls apart which happened to me on the first day of class. Gloves with exposed threading is more suitable to MIG welding I learned. My instructor recommended these so I ordered them. The threading is not exposed and they survived 9 classes at 6 hours of constant welding per class. My gloves show the burn and slag marks from all that welding but they are still perfectly good and not falling apart at all.In regards to some of the comments about the gloves hardening up or getting misshapen. That slightly happened to one of the fingers on my gloves but that was when I had the rod resting on one of the glove fingers as I was guiding it through a weld bead. Of course the rod is crazy hot so that in turn will "cook" the leather and make it hard or misshapen. I don't think any leather glove would be able to handle temps like that without something happening to it. What is most important is even after the glove cooked it still held up and didn't burn through or fall apart. So I think it performed well given that kind of abuse. It is looking like it will be a long time before I'll need to replace these stick welding gloves but when I do I'll be ordering these again.

I've only been using these for a couple weeks so far, but I can already tell that they are a lot more durable than the Miller ones I bought for last semester's welding class. So far I would definitely buy these again. The paIm is nothing more than some really thick leather. The only padding is on the back of the hand, where it's needed most. So far, I definitely plan on buying another pair of these (over Miller brand) once my current pair wear out. So, I definitely recommend them. Though I will update this review if my position changes.>>Update 3/8/17<<It's been about 8 weeks now and they're still holding up. Still impressed. In my original review above, to give a better idea of how thick the leather is on the palm side, I think it would have been better to compare it to the thick leather they use on a baseball glove. As long as you're not trying to weld metal while actually holding it you should be fine. These will outlast everyone's gloves in my welding class. Because I was so disappointed by the first Miller pair I got, I can't recommend these enough. They're lightyears better.

Decided to try a set of “premium” welding gloves after years of using “cheap” standard stick gloves. The gloves fit great and are nicely made, but after 30hours of welding the leather on the back has burnt and shrunk to where it is difficult to get my hand in the glove. Ordered a size larger than my normal size but still had shrinking issues. Liner was also becoming bunched up and starting to cause discomfort. I guess I’ll stick to my tried and true $10 Tillman cowhide side splits.

First night of class I grabbed a practice piece not realizing how hot it was. The gloves saved my hand. If I had been wearing the gloves provided by the school it would have meant at least some blisters. Dexterity is ok for stick welding but not great for mig. I had only ever mig welded and did not have a good idea of how much hotter the process is. I'll continue with my old gloves for mig but these are my new stick welding gloves. Coincidentally they turned out to be the same gloves the instructor uses. Go figure.

Great heat protection, decent dexteritt, but lining on the inside of gloves barely lasted a month before shredding itself to bits.

Large enough for my husband's big paws. Many are marked the size but are actually smaller than size represented.

The way these gloves feel when you put them on is amazing!! The leather is soft and flexible the insides of the glove feels like my hands are shrouded in little clouds and baby bunnies.

Comfortable and flexible, something you hardly find in welding gloves.
