CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2011) - SEASON 01 (2 Discs)

Fabulous remake of an old classic.
I just received this dvd set and writing this review as I watch it. The show sparkles in it's sunny Miami locales and the leading ladies are charismatic and beautiful, assertive and tough. What's not to love? Super sexy Puerto Rican actor Ramon Rodriguez is easy on the eyes and quite the match to the beautiful gals. The series features lots of action and humor..plus a few underlying storylines that unfortunately will never be resolved due to the series' quick demise. Thumbs down to ABC network for that.Unfairly criticized and prematurely hated by many critics, mostly in part to ABC's relentless chopping of long running favorite shows such as "Lost", this remake of Charlie's Angels was pure, downright fun fun fun. Devoid of convoluted sci-fi plots or overly sappy family matters drama as many viewers of ABC tend to favor, this show was about escapism and getting viewers involvement on the action packed plot twists and beautiful locations. As the show progressed week after week, it got better and better, but unfortunately ratings talk and ABC chopped it before realizing its full potential. The show was not even given a chance to find an audience on a different time lot. Sad indeed. Due to ABC's quick axing, US audiences never got to enjoy the last episode of the series titled "Angels Never Forget" which is included on this dvd set (thanks Sony!!) and in my opinion is probably one of the best episode of the entire run..if not the best one as the Angels investigate a man who suffers from amnexia. Lots of humor, tension and plot twists on this one episode alone. Charlie's Angels 2011, along with Hawaii Five-O 2010- are the two most recent best produced shows on TV right now...and at least we will have great storytelling, beautiful cast and locales in H5O to last for a while.. and we will always love our Angels for having dished just that in only 8 great episodes. Oh how much I would have liked to see a cross-over episode where the Angels cross path with the boys of Hawaii Five-O..Point is, if you are a fan of the original Angels in the 70s and the Angels movies, then you should have this set in your collection and go back to heaven with the new Angels 2011.

Loved this DVD
I enjoyed the series when it was on. Of course it could not be like the original. As it is a different time and what worked then would not work now. There are Charlie’s Angels movies out that have done wonderfully. So the expectation for this was high. But to me it seemed no one in the media gave it a chance. They began cutting it down before it ever hit the small screen. This series had it all, beautiful scenery, great locations and three marvelous women to carry on the adventure as well as a terrific John Bosley. Minka Kelly stood out for me but Annie Ilonzeh & Rachel Taylor were also good in their roles. And Ramon Rodriguez as John gave the series a breath of fresh air. I believed each one and was taken with them on their adventures. We will never find out more about John and Elizabeth (Charlie’s daughter) As well we not see anymore of CIA agent Samantha Masters. Stories that could have given more to an already marvelous series. What a great series only to be cut so short. It was getting great momentum and would have been a big hit if given the chance. It did better than some that are on now. Would be nice if the Powers That Be actually gave a series a chance.Loved the series, the stories, the acting and the beautiful locations. When I found out the series was out on DVD, I jumped to get it. My only problem was during The Angels in Chains episode at the end when Samantha and John kissed the music that began playing, messed up. It was a blip in a fantastic series. And I know that this did not happen in the broadcast so it was a glitch in the DVD. Still I love it and will treasure this DVD.

Fun series, beautiful angels, harshly & unfairly criticized
The three lead actresses were stunning, incredibly stylish and growing into their roles as Angels as Kate (Annie Ilonzeh), Abby (Rachael Taylor) and Eve (Minka Kelly). The idea of using Miami instead of Los Angeles for the location of the Townsend Agency was perfect, as colorful, exotic Miami with its beautiful skyline and Latin culture added flavor to the series. As in most series, the show, including the actresses' performances, improved (I admit, the pilot was a little over the top and was probably the main reason many critics failed to give the series the chance it deserved). Ramon Rodriguez was charismatic, sexy and sweet as the new Bosley. The background music was spectacular and some of the guest stars were great. The subplots involving each Angel and Bosley were intriguing, what a shame the series ended before they were developed. Episode 4, Angels in Chains, which was a tribute to the original series with its own twist (Angels have to become inmates in a Cuban prison to save an American), was especially enjoyable. Suitable for whole family, lots of eye candy, action packed and harmless fun! The DVD contains all 8 episodes, including the last great episode, "Angels Never Forget," which was never aired by ABC in the U.S.! Let's pray another network, TNT, CW or Starz, picks this series back up or that a follow-up movie is created for us die-hard, modern Angels fans!

Unfair attacks, wasted potential
Being a fan of the original, 1976-1981 Charlie's Angels (see my "Complete Series" review) and having enjoyed the two big-screen treatments (still hoping for #3), I was excited, and quite looking forward to, this reboot of Angels when it was announced two years ago. Unfortunately, it aired on the one night I wouldn't be home, and I wasn't able to record it. Efforts to view the episodes online were also fruitless. So I am very appreciative of Sony Entertainment for issuing this DVD release which has allowed me to finally see it.Out of curiosity, while I viewed the eight episodes, I read some reviews online-not just from customers (on Amazon.com-no one on Amazon.ca had reviewed it yet) but from media critics as well. I was, quite frankly, shocked and dismayed at how ruthlessly, brutally, and unfairly, this show was attacked by the critics. I seriously questioned whether the critics had seen the same shows I was watching-or had even watched it at all for than a few minutes. The two big-screen movies were semi-parody of the original. But this was Charlie's Angels done straight (straighter even than the original). I rather liked some of the new directions the producers took with this: 1) Relocating the agency from L. A. to Miami; 2) Making the agency more high-tech, in step with the times; 3) Coming from the opposite direction, as it were, from the original-i.e. rather than have the Angels be former, underutilized, policewomen, to have them (and Bosley, for that matter) be former criminals granted a second chance by Charlie (part Angels, part Mod Squad?); 4) Making Bosley a contemporary of, and an equal member of the team to, the Angels, rather than David Doyle's uncle-figure; 5) We got more of a look into the pasts, loves, and families of the Angels here than we ever did in the original. All three girls are beautiful (natch)-heck, the show was worth watching for Minka Kelly (Eve) alone. I thought the chemistry between the actors worked very well, and had no problem with the acting, for what it was-this is, after all, Charlie's Angels, not Shakespeare. All in all, I thought the 2011 version of Angels was quite well done, and a lot of fun. I liked it a lot better than the new Hawaii Five-0, which I've never been able to get into. ABC was really unfair to this show. In the first place, they did it no favors scheduling it on Thursdays against CBS megahits The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. Then they cancelled it after only four episodes, while the show was still finding its footing. Worst of all, they did something that makes me crazy-they cancelled the show with a plotline unresolved. We'll never know what Abby's father and Bosley's nemesis, "Oswald", had cooked up.One thing-the voice of Charlie was supposed to be Victor Garber (Alias), after Robert Wagner had to withdraw from the show due to scheduling conflicts. But the voice I heard on the DVDs sure sounded like Mr. Wagner to me. Could it be that when they did the DVD transfer, Mr. Wagner came in and re-dubbed Charlie's lines? But I digress.I think that anyone who enjoyed the original series and the movies would really enjoy this show. I would recommend it if only to ponder the potential of this show-what could have been if only ABC had given it the chance to grow and mature-potential ABC stupidly wasted. This show definitely deserves another chance. Perhaps they could go the Arrested Development route-new episodes on Netflix? Just a thought. To Drew Barrymore, if, by some weird chance, she gets to see this: don't let this get you down, and please don't ever give up on Charlie's Angels. We're still hoping for CA #3. Here's a thought-why not do #3 using the 2011 cast and format?

Sous-titrage

How could you not like this?
Watched the first episode so far, I have no clue what ppl are saying when they say it might not be as good as the old Charlies, it has punch, style, a plot twist 15 mins in, the fight scenes were good, the stunts were good, explosions and bullets galore, party scenes, story line was decent, beautiful cinematography, shot on South Beach right where Scarface and Miami Vice were filmed, lots of scenery, and the girls? Fuhgetaboutit !!! So far worth the $64 it cost, but had to have it any way to complete the Minka Kelly section lol, nothing she does is bad so far, like Jennifer Connelly only less talented and more sexy.
