brothers love
this(short)story is about 2 half brothers that lost their mother early in life. the youngest brother is very much loved by everyone while the oldest is despised by everyone (for no apparent reason). one evening the young brother went out and got lost in a snow storm and would have died had his eldest brother not come out looking for him. by the time he found him, the storm was so strong they could not make their way back home. the oldest brother decided to save the youngest life by taking of his coat and give it to his brother and trowing his own body over him to keep him warm and by doing so dieing in the process.this is a tale of unconditional brotherly love that teaches us that no matter what, love, duty and honor will prevail.

Sons of one mother, but two fathers
Almost a fairytale like topic where the older stepson is being neglected and everything and everyone is in favour of the younger son. Little predictable in the outcome of the story.

Love is unconditional
I found this short story a very heartwarming read. Mrs. Gaskill forms her stories in such a way as to give the reader cause to reflect on the morals or lessons to be learned from her works. A very short read but well worth reading.

Missing Pages
This seemed to be a good book--- until I opened it up. Only the first 9 pages had anything on them. And the rest were completely blank. Not much of a book. Not quite what I want to give my Mom for Christmas.

The Half Brothers
Gregory's mothers first husband died of consumption leaving her in debt with a young son and another on the way, mothers sister came to stay, the first child a girl died, Gregory was born, Aunt Fanny was kind to all, mothers eyesight was failing and she couldn't do the sewing she took in, William Preston came on the scene and married mother we went to live in his houseWilliam was jealous of the time his wife spent with Gregory, mother became unwell and died in childbirth, Aunt Fanny came to live with us again, father hated Gregory, the book continues telling of the relationship between the two brothersMy verdict, very short book about 35 pages long, I went online to find more of the book thinking there must be more but there wasn't, not really worth bothering with

A moving short story.
This is a very sweet short story, about two half brothers, and about the boundries of love, resentment and forgiveness. Its very quick to read, but will stay with you for a long time afterwards.Gaskell has a very gentle way of writing, that after reading Cranford, I wanted to read more of her work. Her strenght is showing character and emotions, through her characters actions, rather than informing the reader as lesser author do. In Cranford she demonstrated at times, very dry and subtle wit, which, while not suitable in this moving tale, you can feel it in the writing, it is not ust a sad story or a tale with a moral; it is much more than that.
