Great female jazz singer
Elizabeth Shepherd uses syncopated rhythms to create a style of her own. On this album she breathes new life into some well known standards that have made me want to listen to it repeatedly. It is currently in my "favorites" rack. Her arrangement and production of this album are first class and while her keyboard playing isn't in the same class Eliane Elias it is still incredible good and is important to the translation of these songs. I highly recommend this album to any jazz lover and especially if you follow the greats like Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Eliane Elias and Sarah Vaughan because something tells me that Elizabeth Shepherd will be added to this list of great female jazz singers and arrangers. To be perfectly clear, stop reading this review and add this album to your cart now.

Intimate, Stylish and Secure: The Art of Elizabeth Shepherd
Montreal, Canada is the home of song stylist Elizabeth Shepherd, though she spends a lot of time on the international circuit, so secure is her place in the world of soul-jazz. But this time out, instead of focusing one her now highly touted abilities as a song writer, Elizabeth while preparing for the birth of her child, sticks to her vocal and pianistic gifts and in the company of a rather extraordinary group of musicians offers us REWIND - a visit to old and near forgotten treasures of jazz.Shepherd's voice is gentle, on the small side, and all of that contributes to the fact that she can offer her talents as a stylist of intimacy. Her focal point in everything she sings is her marriage to the lyrics as well as her precise vocalism. More used to offering new works, experimental works, and works of her own composing, this time around she settles into the old standards that have had a special meaning to her (and to us!) and sings in both French and English. The result - a charming recital of sentimental songs arranged, sung and performed with a straightforward honesty that pays obeisance to the creators of the tunes. The assemble musicians on this recording include Shepherd on vocals, piano, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, tuned mixing bowls and muted pestle, beatbox, Ross MacIntyre and Scott Kemp, double bass, Denzal Sinclaire, vocals, Kevin Turcotte and David Travers-Smith, trumpet, Reg Schwager, guitar, and Andrew Downing, cell and double bass. The songs range from Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Leslie Bricusse, Lionel Hampton, Kurt Weil, Mel Tormé, Duke Ellington, to George Brassens, José Luis Perales, Bobby Hutcherson, Cannonball Adderley, and Nat Simon. Works form the greats, inspirations from Elizabeth Shepherd. She simply has it! Grady Harp, September 12

Bueno
Llegó en buenas condiciones, lo único malo es que el empaque es de cartón, por lo que no brinda una buena protección al CD.
