Great books, especially for the price and when read by Amazon Alexa via Kindle
I had the whole set of 11 books many years ago and enjoyed reading them many times. What really prompted me to buy these again, however, was so Alexa could read them to me via Kindle at night before bed. It's a little quirky--Alexa tends to pause too long at commas and mispronounce certain names (Deya Thoris instead of Dejah Thoris, Sarkoya instead of Sarkoja)--but it's still pretty cool to just lie back and listen without needing an audiobook. Halfway through Princess, and looking forward to the rest.

Great pace for all reading levels. Very interesting story.
I just rewatched the Disney movie John Carter with my family and enjoyed it much more than we remembered liking it the first time. My son noticed that the movie was based on a series of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs; the same author who wrote the Tarzan series of books. It was basically a no-brainer when we saw this Kindle version for only 99 cents and it comes with a reference to the audio books for free. If you're only interested in the audio books, you can search for "Edgar Rice Burroughs audiobooks" and find them free for everyone. The books are worth a read and are chapterized really well for both young and older readers. My 11 year old son is reading through the books, while my 12 year old daughter an myself are keeping up with the audiobooks.I highly recommend this sci-fi adventure series to readers of all ages who have an interest in science fiction stories told at a very steady and encouraging pace.

It is no wonder why this story line lasted so many years and this many books but it is a very good read.
It is important to remember that this story line was written during the early part of the 20th century. Some of the authors conversation about the owning of slaves would not be acceptable today. Also do not, expect the books to mirror the movie. There is very little semblance between the movie and the book. But the story line was not only imaginative but well played out. To depict a story line of someone to beam from earth to Mars and take part in the community or society as well as fight in their wars and win the heart of the a beautiful woman was intense. I can see why the books spanned several years and almost 20 books and kept a faithful audience for many years and was even good enough to warrant a movie script in 2012 almost 100 years later. Though I had to stop the books half way through I still enjoyed the story line.

Scie fi a la Burroughs
;Excellent compilation of the John Carter stories. Well written, fast paced and fun to read. As far as adventure goes, Burroughs out did himself with these books. Some may like the Tarzan books more, but they should not avoid the intrigue, mystery, and science fiction that Burroughs handled in these novels. Highly recommended.

This book is nothing like the movie and it is wonderful
This book is nowhere like the movie. It is more exciting and more detailed. I would recommend this book and all of Edgar Rice Burroughs books to anyone wanting to read adventure books.

A wholly Wonderful book. Influencial in so many ways
A wholly Wonderful book. Influencial in so many ways, from a seminal adventure novel to an inspirational work where "Never give up- never back away from a problem, stay calm and keep thinking under pressire and devoted, trusted beloved friends and partners are worth sacrificing to keep them in your life." are key themes.Burroughs is known for Tarzan- Do not miss John Carter and his fellow Barsoomians. Read this book- delight in the slightly stilted and graceful use of laguage and writing style, thrill to the solving unceasing problems and life and death situations. This such fun. Escape to Mars and don't miss a page!

Good Stories!
I like the stories, but I found his writing needing to be a little more descriptive in parts and I couldn't really visualize what he was trying to put across to the reader. But, that's just me.

Pretty Good.
Everything works fine. I mostly listen to the audio books. I'm not a big fan of how the reader is reading, but I've learned to look past that and enjoy the story. I think my only problem are the links to the audio books. Downloading was a bit confusing, but eventually I succeeded.
