LaserMax Centerfire Laser for S&W J-Frame-G (for Models 642,442, 637, 638 & 438)

I was on the fence about buying one of these for my S&W 642 for a while, but I’m glad I finely did. It was a bit of a pain to install. The tolerances are pretty tight, but once it’s on it feels like it’s not going anywhere. It was easy to zero and was pretty close right after install. The green laser is BRIGHT. Much more then the same model in red. I haven’t taken it to the range yet, it’s been too cold. But as soon as I do I will update this review. I currently have a leather holster on order that says it will fit the 642 with the Lasermax installed, but I can’t comment on that until I receive it and try it out for a bit. But I highly recommend this for your snub nose. It allows me to find my targets faster and makes it easier to deal with the 642’s short sight radius.

What a disappointment! I wanted to like this even though it seemed sub par in quality to the Crimson Trace and Viridian lasers that I have. I liked the smooth couture of the laser, but the darn thing would not fit properly on my S&W J-Frame. After getting it to fit the best I could, I took it to the range and due to the poor fit, the top of the laser kept coming off the frame. The instructions say to make sure there is not gap between the barrel and the top of the laser, but I could not eliminate the gap and still attach to the lower part of the laser to the trigger guar. Plus, the beam was much weaker than my Viridian green lasers. My Viridian lasers were showing up clearly on the targets and I couldn't see this one until I got about 5 yards away - yes I tried a new battery. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I was completely dissatisfied and sent it back.

I got the laser as a gift. Fits perfectly on a 642. It was a little tricky to get it on because it fits so tight. Once I got it aligned properly and screwed it together it's feels like it's glued on. Unfortunately, snow has kept me from the range to testing it out.

I love the green laser, but unfortunately my J-Frame is a very old model (1960's) and it took a dremel and a lot of time to make it fit my pistol. As such, it doesn't hold true but for conceal carry, it's accurate enough for under 20 feet.

Lazer works fine but green isn't worth the extra money

The ad was misleading as it did not state which models that this particular laser works on. Until you receive the laser and find that it does not work on your gun and you want to exchange it for one that will work. They then tell you that they will refund only 85% of the price because they don't make a laser for my gun. I suppose that's my fault??

Works very well. Just not as visible as red is for me. Very pleased overall.

Simple. Clear install directions. Just take your time and don't rush. I've had it installed for a while now and it is still pretty zeroed from what I can tell.
